'The garden is a walled garden in Helmsley, n yorks ( www.helmsleywalledgarden.og ) although the original productive and flower garden dates back to the late 1700s, it lay derelict for decades until in 1990 volunteers decided to try and renovate and restore the garden which they have to an incredibly high standard. They raised and sold plants etc to raise money for the restoration and even managed to secure lottery funding. It is very much a community garden where local people who don't have a garden can, take a plot in the productive garden and grow their own. Food in the glasshouse cafe uses produce from the garden, the tables are set with garden flowers and there's a ' gardeners flower table', with labelled specimens of what's currently in bloom in the garden. It's a stunning, surprising garden in a beautiful Yorkshire market town set against the dramatic backdrop of Helmsley castle. There is a stunning, long hot summer border, a dry/gravel garden, productive and cut flower garden, a flower meadow , many heritage fruit trees and an extensive clematis collection. The fountain sits in the site of an original old fountain
