A Piece of Cake;
Mary Berry Digs in;
8.9.2015 Mary Berry cuts to the quick with a slice of Simon Lycetts gigantic floral Victoria Sponge Cake. Ingredients for this flourless cake include ;over a thousand carnations, Dianthus 'Apple Juice', the whipped cream hydrangeas are Hydrangea Alba, yummy jam in the sandwich is represented by deep red 'Tomango' spray roses and the cherries on the whipped cream hydrangea top are Rosa 'Naomi'. It took half a day to build the oasis frame and a day for 1 florist( with additional help) to complete the bake off!
Mary unwinds in her country garden( bucks) relaxing and taking time out to leisurely water her produce and flowers. She grows herbs, fruits and vegetables , but only those she enjoys cooking with and are caterpillar resistant!. Mary grows herbs, fruits and a few edible flowers like nasturtiums and pansies, thought the boys tend not to eat them!
Simon , on the other hand, grows intensive crops in his small urban, East London garden; Speciality edibles are rocket and salad crops but his small space is unsurprisingly dominated by flowers. In summer he grows Regalia lilies, sweet peas and dahlias.
